According to the Diesel Technology Forum the adoption of clean diesel technology should be a key element of the Clean Air Action Plan. Which is being created by the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach in the US.
The ports (1st and 2nd in the rankings for volumes handled) are intensive users of vehicles, boats and powered equipment. They are keen to meet the stringent requirements set by Californian regulators but also aware of the time/cost implications of utilising alternative technologies.
The Diesel Technology Forum has weighed in to the debate to ensure that diesel tech gets a fair hearing. The forum has highlighted that switching to renewable diesel fuel, upgrading older vehicles and equipment would achieve massive emissions reductions. This would happen in a short period of time and with lower cost projections than the alternatives.
The most important factor seems to be that improved diesel fuel and equipment is available immediately and with little change to port infrastructure.
Interesting to see such a positive affirmation of the continuing relevance of diesel power.
