African Education Needs Energy

used diesel generators for AfricaAccording to a BBC report (“E-learning for Africa held back by power shortage”) the drive to provide e-learning facilities is being hampered by a chronic shortage of power.

This means that millions of children across the continent can’t take advantage of the advances in educational technology that are being driven by low cost computing devices and internet connectivity.

The good news is that the International Energy Agency reports that over 300 million people in rural Africa (particularly Kenya and Tanzania) will gain access to electricity by 2040 from a range of off-grid and mini-grid solutions.

Diesel generators look set to play their part in the roll-out of improved access to power in Africa over the next 20 years.  They can be used both as a primary power source and as back up for renewable energy sources.
